Marking for success: Optimising tumour bed delineation for breast radiotherapy in modern breast-conserving surgery

In this webinar, Dr Janice Yeh will be talking about the ‘Why’, ‘How’, and ‘What’ of breast cancer tumour bed marking that will help improve accuracy and consistency of adjuvant radiotherapy planning and treatment following breast-conserving surgery. As part of her presentation, Dr Yeh will share progress and results from a recently conducted single arm prospective feasibility study assessing the use of a novel gel marker conducted at Austin Health.
Aim:

Dr Fiona Hegi-Johnson
Radiation Oncologist, Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre; Senior Research Fellow, University of Melbourne
Dr Fiona Hegi-Johnson is a Radiation Oncologist at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre in Victoria and Senior Research Fellow at the University of Melbourne. Clinically, she specialises in the treatment of patients with lung and breast cancer, including a subspecialty interest in stereotactic ablative body radiotherapy (SABR). Fiona is also the Chair of the Trans-Tasman Radiation Oncology (TROG) Lung Subspecialty Group and is the chief investigator on a number of clinical trials in lung cancer. Fiona’s research program, which is supported by a Victorian Cancer Agency Fellowship, focuses on using novel PET tracer to integrate biological and imaging information into radiotherapy to develop personalized, biologically driven approaches to radiotherapy treatment.
Dr Janice Yeh
Dr Janice Yeh is a Radiation Oncologist working at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre Breast Cancer unit across Parkville and Box Hill campuses.
After graduating from the University of Tasmania, she completed her specialist training and was admitted as a Fellow of The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists (RANZCR) in Radiation Oncology in early 2021. She also completed a Clinical Research Fellowship predominantly in breast cancer, at the Olivia Newton-John Cancer Centre, Austin Health before joining the Peter Mac team as a Consultant Radiation Oncologist in 2022.
She has a special interest in breast cancer radiotherapy research, currently undergoing a PhD with Monash University and Austin Health, investigating the role of using a novel marker to help delineation of the breast cancer tumour bed in early breast cancer radiotherapy planning, with the goal to improve radiotherapy accuracy using an alternative to surgical clips.
