The MoST-CIRCUIT Trial with A/Prof Oliver Klein

RECAP Journal Club: A Rural Health Podcast

Tune in to this 'Author in the Room' Journal Club session with A/Prof Oliver Klein, with Dr. Sam Harris and Arlie Novy from Rare Cancers Australia, exploring the MoST-CIRCUIT trial.

This trial was a multicentre, open-label phase II study conducted across 17 Australian and New Zealand sites, including substantial enrolment from regional and rural centres. This episode provides an overview of the MoST-CIRCUIT trial’s design, objectives, and overall findings, before exploring two key cohorts in greater depth: patients with advanced gynaecological clear cell cancers (ovarian and endometrial) and those with mismatch repair–deficient/microsatellite instability-high (dMMR/MSI-H) non-colorectal cancers.

Rare cancers like these present unique challenges for patients in regional and rural areas, including limited access to specialist care and clinical trials. This session highlights the implications of the study’s findings for regional and rural patients, making it particularly relevant for clinicians and researchers interested in rare cancers, immunotherapy, and improving equitable access to clinical trials in regional settings

The RECAP (Regional Evidence, Collaboration and Practice) Journal Club is a quarterly initiative supported by the Cancer Patient Support Program (CPSP) Grant, showcasing peer-reviewed articles that reflect international best practice, led by regional hosts and paper authors.

Author in the Room

Associate Professor Oliver Klein

Clinician Scientist, Cancer Immunobiology Program, ONJCRI

Medical Oncologist, Austin Hospital

A/Prof Oliver Klein has undertaken his training in Medical Oncology and Clinical Haematology in Germany joining the Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research at the Austin Hospital in 2005. He has worked for several years as a postdoctoral and clinical research fellow, being actively involved in melanoma and cancer immunotherapy research.

With extensive experience in the management of patients with melanoma and a particular interest in immuno-oncology, he has lead an investigator-initiated clinical trial that demonstrated unprecedented clinical efficacy of immunotherapy, using checkpoint inhibitors in patients with advanced rare cancers. His research is focused on exploring the most up-to-date and novel way to treat cancer, by harnessing the body’s immune system’s ability to fight cancer. He currently is involved in numerous clinical trials and continues to publish in scientific journals and present at national and international conferences.
