ROSA Project Recommendations and Roadmap

This presentation will give an overview of the ROSA Project and its findings and recommendations delivered in 2023, including a 5-year Roadmap outlining the work required to address evidence gaps and prepare health services for any implementation of risk-adjusted screening in Australia.

Over 2018-2023, the Australian Department of Health and Aged Care funded Cancer Council Australia to systematically investigate options for risk-based breast screening in Australia, through activities such as evidence reviews, data analysis, population modelling, health service provider surveys, policy analyses and stakeholder engagement.

A/Prof Nickson led this body of work, named the ROSA Project, on behalf of the Daffodil Centre (a joint venture between the University of Sydney and Cancer Council NSW), for Cancer Council Australia. The ROSA Project submitted eight comprehensive technical reports to the Australian Department of Health and Aged Care, including additional reports in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, guided by an Expert Advisory Group and with input from various expert and stakeholder reference groups.
