Melanoma Nursing Webinar Program

Assessment and management of complex unresectable tumours and fungating lesions in melanoma

This webinar was held on 21 May, 2026, 1.00 -2.00pm.

This webinar is tailored for melanoma nurses aiming to deepen their understanding of assessment and management of complex, unresectable and fungating melanoma lesions.

The session summarised the goals of systemic and regional treatments — including intralesional injections and isolated limb infusion — and provide practical guidance on assessing and classifying fungating lesions and complex tumours to determine urgent versus conservative management pathways. Emphasis was placed on recognising triggers for urgent multidisciplinary review and understanding their role in wound and symptom management. Nurses will receive evidence-informed, actionable strategies to optimise symptom control and quality of life, covering pain, exudate and odour management, dressing selection, infection prevention, psychosocial support and patient education.

Learning outcomes:

  • Explain the goals of systemic and regional treatments for complex, unresectable melanoma, including intralesional injections and isolated limb infusion
  • Gain knowledge of how fungating lesions and complex unresectable melanoma tumours are assessed and classified to inform urgent versus conservative management pathways and the role of the multidisciplinary team in wound management

  • Identify practical nursing strategies to optimise symptom control and quality of life
