About the framework
With the total burden of cancer increasing as the population increases in median age, changes demographic, and expands distribution into rural and regional areas, there is a need for an education framework that articulates the evolving educational needs of the workforce. The VCCC Alliance Cancer Education Framework (hereafter referred to as The Framework) articulates the abilities the cancer workforce (including consumer advocates) requires, to provide best practice care to effectively meet the health needs of the cancer community it serves.
The Framework is an initiative of the VCCC Alliance’s Cancer Education and Training Advisory Committee to support the training and professional development trajectory of the cancer workforce through the Centre for Cancer Education. The Framework will map the objectives to educational programming or resources that will support progression.
The Framework follows the trajectory of a cancer diagnosis categorised into the Domain areas of: (1) Prevention, screening, and diagnostics, (2) Treatment (including Supportive Care), (3) Monitoring and Surveillance and (4) Palliative and End of Life Care. These are in turn viewed through the thematic lenses of: (1) Leadership and Non-Technical Skills, (2) Research (including Clinical Trials), (3) Clinical Care, and (4) Consumer Involvement, Equity, and Inclusion. It is centred in adult learning principles, evidence that informs best practice care and reflects the efforts of hundreds of subject matter experts across the cancer sector.
