A deep dive on liposarcoma

Multidisciplinary insights and emerging therapies in liposarcoma care

24 July 2025

Join us for a comprehensive and multidisciplinary webinar exploring the latest developments in the understanding and management of liposarcoma. This session will provide a concise overview of the histologic subtypes and evolving therapeutic landscape, including novel immunotherapies and targeted treatments.

Expert speakers will provide insights from surgical, radiation oncology, and translational research perspectives.

Topics include:

  • Overview of liposarcoma subtypes and current therapeutic strategies, including updates from SARC032 and use of agents such as trabectedin and eribulin in the metastatic setting
  • Surgical perspective on managing liposarcoma
  • Radiation oncology perspective on liposarcoma treatment
  • Translational research update on innovations and ongoing studies in liposarcoma

Chair

Dr Susie Bae
Medical Oncologist, Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre; Clinical Research Fellow with the Australia New Zealand Sarcoma Association (ANZSA)
Dr Bae is a medical oncologist with subspecialty interests in sarcoma and breast cancer, working at Peter Mac and Eastern Health. She is also a Fellow for the Australia and New Zealand Sarcoma Association (ANZSA).

Speakers and panellists

Professor David Gyorki
Consultant surgeon, Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre and Olivia Newton John Cancer Centre
Prof David Gyorki is a specialist surgeon in complex surgical oncology. In addition to his private practice, he is a consultant surgeon at Peter Mac and the Olivia Newton John Cancer Centre with a particular interest in the management of patients with melanoma, soft tissue sarcoma and breast cancer.

Associate Professor Sarat Chander
Radiation Oncologist, Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre
A/Prof Sarat Chander is a highly experienced consultant Radiation Oncologist, currently serving patients at both the main campus at Melbourne and as the Director at the Box Hill Campus. He specialises in the treatment of Urological Cancers, Gastrointestinal Cancers, and Sarcoma, and is well-recognised for his technical proficiency in Prostate Brachytherapy and Stereotactic Radiotherapy of Liver and other extracranial sites, making him a distinguished clinician in his field.

Dr Ian Parish
Group Leader and Fundamental Immunologist, Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre
Dr Ian Parish is a Fundamental Immunologist with expertise in the negative regulation of T-cell function. He completed his PhD at the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute (WEHI), during which he studied the cellular and molecular regulation of peripheral T-cell tolerance to better understand how autoimmunity is restrained by the immune system. He then accepted a postdoctoral position at the Yale School of Medicine, where he focused on T-cell differentiation during infection, and developed an interest in why T-cell responses become blunted during chronic viral infection. After returning to Australia, he established an independent research program at the Australian National University (ANU) aimed at more broadly deciphering the molecular pathways that limit T-cell function.
