Dermatology in Melanoma: Secondary prevention and cutaneous toxicities

This webinar is tailored for melanoma nurses aiming to deepen their understanding of dermatological considerations, challenges and management in melanoma.
This session explored early diagnosis, prevention and surveillance for subsequent primary melanoma, including follow-up protocols and the emerging role of AI, and awareness of diagnostic challenges for atypical presentations, including featureless and rare subtypes, special populations, and prevention strategies. Cutaneous toxicities of immunotherapy will also be examined with an exploration of diagnosis, first-line management from a nursing perspective, and prognosis provided. Nurses will gain insights into the unique dermatological challenges and innovative approaches to diagnosis and management. This knowledge will equip them to offer comprehensive care and patient education as core members of the multidisciplinary team.
Learning outcomes:
- Understand and apply current best practices in early diagnosis, prevention, and surveillance of melanoma
- Develop strategies for managing melanoma in special populations and implement effective prevention measures for high-risk individuals
- Recognise, assess, provide first-line management and understand criteria for referral for cutaneous toxicities associated with immunotherapy in melanoma patients, including understanding their prognosis and impact on treatment.

A/Prof Linda Martin A/Prof Linda Martin is Head of Dermatology at the University of New South Wales, Staff Specialist Dermatologist at Sydney Children’s Hospital, and Principal Dermatologist and Faculty member at Melanoma Institute Australia. She has a particular interest in diagnosis of melanoma in high-risk populations, and management of immunotherapy associated cutaneous toxicities. |
