The importance of coaching

VCCC Alliance Leadership Academy Series

19 Sep 2023

Dr Sarah Dalton discusses the importance and role of professional coaching.

Professional coaching is increasingly recognised as an evidence-based strategy that enables clinicians and their teams to thrive. Being more ‘coach-like’ can bring higher levels of engagement and lower levels of stress to your conversations.

Aim: This session will provide participants with an introduction to coaching as a growth tool in clinical settings and outline how to get the coaching journey started.

Learning objectives: Participants will gain insights into the:

  • definition of coaching and how it differs from mentoring and teaching

  • role coaching can play in personal growth and leading others

  • next steps in either seeking a coach or learning how to coach others

Chair: Ms Michelle O'Sullivan

Michelle O'Sullivan has been a consumer representative for the VCCC Alliance since 2017. She works in leadership and coaching consulting and has lived experience of breast cancer.
