Join Associate Professor David Kok and Associate Professor Bhaumik Shah and be inspired by graduate academic excellence showcasing the latest cohort of Master of Cancer Sciences alumni and their cancer research projects.

Graduates will present their work in rapid-fire presentations resulting in a comprehensive, multidisciplinary focus on cancer research and clinical care. The diverse program will cover topics including data-driven projects, the patient experience, registry data, translational, mapping the evidence and clinical research.

Awards for best monograph, best presentation and the Bob Thomas Award for Dux will be presented.

This virtual event promises to inspire prospective students who are looking to broaden their expertise in the cancer domain.

Associate Professor Femke Buisman-Piljman
University of Melbourne

Associate Professor Femke Buisman-Piljman will be presenting a keynote on 'Your journey to become the health professional of the future'. Advances in sciences and the ways we work provide many new opportunities, but it means that professionals need to keep learning. 

Associate Professor Buisman-Piljman is a leader in online education and curriculum development, specialising in continued education and has been awarded the South Australian Early Career STEM Educator of the Year - Tertiary Education and several teaching scholarships. As the Academic Program Director (Health) at MSPACE, she supports a multi-million dollar teaching portfolio for the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences, the largest faculty at The University of Melbourne.

During her academic career at The University of Adelaide she developed and coordinated full online postgraduate degrees in Addiction Studies and was the program leader for the International Program in Addiction Studies at The University of Adelaide, run with King's College London (UK) and Virginia Commonwealth University (USA). She also developed a very successful free online Mooc on Managing Addiction, a Major for the Bachelor of Health and Medical Sciences and helped implement addiction studies in a range of health courses. Femke also established a new cross-discipline research line investigating the role of oxytocin the impact of early adversity on mental health and addiction through the life span and has over 2000 citations. She works to provide flexible, engaging, inclusive and high-quality teaching solutions that are market driven for local and global markets. She enjoys working in the area of health and health sciences to support the health professionals and leaders of the future. Femke also loves to engage with the public, e.g. as scientist in schools and neuroscientist in resident supporting STEM and Women in Science initiatives.
