Staging the Ageing: Vital Lessons from the Monash Geriatric Oncology Service
Monday Lunch Livestream
With Dr Irene Wagner and Dr Ranjana Srivastava
27 April 2020
Holistic care of the increasingly large elderly population with cancer is an area that concerns all of us. A comprehensive geriatric assessment pays attention to the cancer diagnosis as well as the psychological, social and functional context in which cancer treatment occurs. A failure to attend to these important domains can result in treating the diagnosis but failing the patient.
In this online edition of Monday Lunch Live, hear from Dr Irene Wagner, an expert in dementia and the residential aged care system, and Dr Ranjana Srivastava who is the oncologist who founded the Monash Geriatric Oncology Service. The duo is actively involved in shaping the future of geriatric oncology in Victoria. Their presentation discusses some key lessons from their geriatric assessment experience and provides tips to clinicians interested in providing holistic healthcare to cancer patients in an ageing society.
