Swinburne Universities Professor Dean Lusher introduces Social Network Analysis (SNA) methods and how deep understanding of social networks can be leveraged to benefit your work.
The importance of social networks has been emphatically demonstrated to the world through the impact of COVID-19. The temporary severing of social ties has come at a cost to individual well being.
Social network analysis (SNA) is a way of examining social connections allowing us to understand their patterns and implications. Social network analysis provides a framework for understanding social connectivity, and it is much more than just a method of analysis. It requires theory – an understanding of the reasons why we connect – to understand the structures of networks.
From research collaborations to clinical networks, this presentation will demonstrate how SNA can help make the most of your social networks and leverage it to maximise the reach and impact of your work.
Professor Lusher presents statistical network models seen as the cutting-edge of quantitative network analysis, allowing researchers to understand the impacts of networks on individual outcomes as well as detect patterns of social structures in ways that take into account the interdependent nature of relation data.
The examples provided include network studies of innovation and knowledge transfer among global multinational companies and collaborations among French cancer researchers.
Professor Dean Lusher
Professor Dean Lusher is a social network researcher and Professor of Innovation Studies at the Centre for Transformative Innovation, Faculty of Business and Law, Swinburne University of Technology. He is Head of the Social Network Research Laboratory, a research team with an international reputation in the development and application of statistical models for social networks.
