Advancing care for low-grade serous ovarian carcinoma

Low-grade serous ovarian carcinoma (LGSOC) is a rare epithelial ovarian cancer with limited treatment options and poor responses to conventional chemotherapy.

Join Dr Dane Cheasley in this forum as he shares research that aims to develop a precision medicine framework for LGSOC by integrating genomic and molecular profiling with high-throughput functional drug screening.

This approach has identified distinct molecular subtypes and therapeutic vulnerabilities, revealing new opportunities for molecularly matched treatments. Through international collaboration, we are now extending this work using patient-derived models approaches to improve molecular classification, predict clinical outcomes and accelerate therapeutic development.

Together, this research provides a framework for translating the biological complexity of LGSOC into improved diagnostics and more personalised treatment strategies for women with this rare disease.

Dr Dane Cheasley
Senior Research Scientist, Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre (Prof Ian Campbell Lab); University of Western Australia.

Dr Dane Cheasley leads a translational research program focused on improving the diagnosis and treatment of rare and aggressive ovarian cancers through multiomics, high-throughput drug screening and precision medicine approaches. His research has identified molecular subtypes and therapeutic vulnerabilities in low-grade serous ovarian carcinoma, with a focus on translating these discoveries into personalised treatment strategies.

He has secured competitive funding from the NHMRC, MRFF, Cancer Council WA, Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation, U.S. Department of Defense, and the Victorian Cancer Agency. Dr Cheasley is an invited research member of the International Consortium for Low-Grade Serous Ovarian Cancer and the Australian Gynaecological Cancer Foundation, and also contributes to research in hereditary ovarian and breast cancer.

Dr Cheasley was a recipient of the Tony Burgess Medal at the 2025 VCCC Alliance Awards for his work in rare ovarian cancer research.
