Psycho-social Needs and Care of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People with Cancer
Monday Lunch Live Stream
With Professor Gail Garvey
3 August 2020
In this much anticipated presentation for 2020, Professor Garvey outlines research and key considerations to support the delivery and optimal care for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people living with cancer.
A growing body of research has reported the significant disparities in cancer outcomes between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians, in part a result of factors relating to the accessibility, acceptability and effectiveness of health services. Although there is increasing awareness of these disparities, targeted culturally appropriate strategies to address these have been slow. Relatively little attention has been directed towards identifying and focusing on the psychosocial aspects of cancer for Indigenous patients, a critical component in improving cancer care and outcomes.
