Meaningful consumer involvement in cancer care: lessons from the literature on optimising co-design methods and processes

Although the benefits of consumer engagement in research and healthcare initiatives are known, there is a need to optimise this for all people affected by cancer. This presentation will cover lessons learnt from current oncology co-design literature which have informed a series of recommendations relating to co-design methodology, participant recruitment and evaluation of co-design initiatives.

Behavioural Scientist and Senior Research Fellow, Melbourne School of Psychological Sciences and Melbourne School of Health Sciences, University of Melbourne
A/Prof Short holds a Bachelor of Psychology with Honours (2007) and a PhD in Behavioural Medicine (2013) from the University of Newcastle. Her experience and post-doctoral training in health psychology, digital health and public health has been completed at leading institutes in Australia and Internationally and supported by a National Health and Medical Research Council Early Career Fellowship (2014-2018).
Associate Professor Nicole Kiss

A/Prof Nicole Kiss is an advanced accredited practicing dietitian with a focus on oncology nutrition through clinical, research and health service management positions. Nicole is a Clinical Associate Professor in the Institute for Physical Activity and Nutrition at Deakin University and co-leads the Exercise and Nutrition for Cancer research group.
