Beyond the buzzword

World Cancer Day 2025 - United by Unique

3 February 2025.

The word patient-centred has become a buzzword it is used so often, but what does it really mean in practice?

For World Cancer Day 2025, the VCCC Alliance has drawn together a stellar line up of panellists including those who have experienced cancer - as a patient, carer or family member - with researchers, clinicians, educators and funders to explore what patient-centred means to them.

This webinar will be a panel discussion throughout - which will reflect on the inclusion of the patient-centred approach from the VCCC Alliance’s inception, how it has changed over time, and how effectively engaging with patient voices can inform cancer research, care, and equity of care into the future – and the integral role of education itself to increase understanding and awareness.

Chair

Melissa Le Mesurier
Chair, VCCC Alliance Cancer Consumer Advisory Committee

Melissa Le Mesurier has a long-held passion for medical research. She was the founding Chair of the Royal Children’s Hospital Cystic Fibrosis Research Trust (1999-2009), which has raised more than $3m for research and funded about 20 clinical fellows.

In 2017, Melissa received an unexpected diagnosis of bladder cancer, and following successful treatment (thanks to early detection and participation in a clinical trial), her commitment to make a difference for other patients only grew. She became involved with the Australian and New Zealand Urological and Prostate Cancer Trials Group (ANZUP) and still serves on their Consumer Advisory Panel.
