Business Skills for Clinical Trial Research Managers Online Course 

This course aims to upskill clinical trial professionals with the business skills they need to successfully run a clinical trial unit 

Learning Objectives: 

  • Explore the steps involved in the clinical trial feasibility process and its impact on study start-up.

  • Explore hospital financing and the language of hospital finance.

  • Consider tips for budget preparation, especially for non-commercial trials and compare budget development and budget negotiation.

  • Examine costing and cost analysis of clinical trials units, creating budgets based on true costs.

  • Recognise common agreements used in clinical trial management in Australia.

  • Define roles crucial for a successful clinical trial unit and guide role development.

  • Identify key negotiation skills.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Identify key roles in the feasibility team and address common problems between the site and sponsor during feasibility.

  • Use enhanced communication skills, including finance language to develop and create budgets tailored for both commercially sponsored and non-commercial trials, while identifying the true cost of a clinical trial unit for sustainable growth.

This module is an introduction to how hospitals are funded.  By utilising the language of finance, you will better communicate with mainstream hospital financial managers to create a clinical trial unit budget with an understanding of true costs.


Feasibility in Clinical Trials

This module explores essential groundwork to initiate a clinical trial, emphasising a robust feasibility assessment process.  


Insurance, Contracts, Agreements

This module explores insurance, contracts, and common agreements used in managing clinical trials in Australia.


Budgeting a Single Clinical Trial

This module explores how to budget a clinical trial appropriately


Budgeting a Clinical Trial Unit

This module helps you to recognise your unit's true costs and design a budget that fulfils your needs and prepares for sustainable future growth.


Staffing a Clinical Trial Unit

This module explores the suggested areas for research managers to consider when planning and working with their staff.


Business Negotiations

This module considers some of the principles behind successful negotiations and offers some practical tips on how to proceed, regardless of the subject matter.
