The Prevention and Early Detection of Cancer Network (PREDICT) Symposium

The field of cancer prevention and early detection is rapidly evolving, requiring the collaboration of diverse roles, from basic researchers to clinical trial specialists, primary care providers, and specialist clinicians. Each contributor plays a vital part in improving patient outcomes, and our collective efforts ensure we remain at the cutting edge of knowledge and best practices.
The PREDICT Symposium will share insights about current and emerging knowledge in this space from a stellar line up of international and national leaders.
Discussions will focus on the latest research and innovations, best practices in early detection, policy and advocacy, and community engagement, with excellent opportunities to network and foster collaborations.
Aims:
To foster collaboration among professionals and stakeholders in cancer prevention and early detection, offering insights, knowledge sharing, and partnership-building to empower participants with the latest tools and information for enhanced efforts in the field.
Learning objectives:

Gain an overview of the molecular basis for cancer prevention and explore potential preventive strategies, including targeting cells of origin and understanding cancer cell biology.

Gain insights into health economics and policy considerations for prevention and early detection, including modelling techniques and successful screening initiatives like ROSA.

Lab Head, Breast Cancer Risk and Prevention Lab, Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre
A/Prof Britt leads the Breast Cancer Risk and Prevention Lab within the Cancer Evolution and Metastasis Program. She obtained her PhD from Monash University working on female reproductive endocrinology and undertook a CJ Martin fellowship at the Institute of Cancer Research (UK) under the mentorship of Alan Ashworth and Matthew Smalley. Her work has helped define why women in today’s society have an increased incidence of breast cancer. Her lab has been instrumental in developing pre-clinical models for prevention-based research.
A/Prof Britt has held Early and Mid-Career Victorian Cancer Agency Fellowships and a National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF) Early Career fellowship. Her work has been supported by NHMRC, Equity Trustees, NBCF, and the Basser Centre (USA). She also co-chairs the VCCC Accelerating Novel Therapies Program which aims to increase the number of new drugs translating through to the patients that need it most.
